The VHS, Sakthinagar, started in 1982 as a unit of Sakthi Foundation, comprising the VM Kailasam Hospital, two Mini-health centers and a Leprosy Project. The 100 bed rural hospital has all ultra modern facilities such as X-ray Units, ECG, Clinical Pathology Laboratory, Ophthalmic Equipment, Ultrasound Scanner, a well equipped Operation Theatre, etc.

The Leprosy Project of the VHS, started in April 1988, covers a population of 1.24 lakhs and has sub-centers each covering a population of 25, 000. It also has a 20 base hospital in Sakthinagar. The introduction of multi-drug therapy has sharply brought down the incidence and prevalence rates of leprosy in the area covered by this project.
MAHATMA GANDHI DE-ADICTION AND REHABILITATION CENTRE, COIMBATORE
This campus accommodates an oral school for the hearing disabled, a de-addiction center, a siddha hospital, an adult blind women's workshop and a Gandhi Museum.
The oral school is one of the few schools in India that specializes in educating hearing disabled children to speak.
This institute has developed a software called ' You Can Voice' for the benefit of the hearing disabled students in 8 languages. Sidha is an ancient discipline of Tamil medicine and the hospital is run by qualified doctors and accepted medical practices.
